Haris studied biology with a focus on botany. Following a PhD in evolutionary biology and traditional medicinal plants (UK), he went on to work at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (UK), the Australian National University (Australia) and the Botanical Garden of Copenhagen (Denmark) for several years, researching the uses and evolution of plants and teaching plant science. He became a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London in 2013. Haris now runs foraging tours on Crete - his homeland, exploring the natural and culinary landscape of the island. His main area for foraging is Central and Western Crete, but he also operates in Eastern Crete.
